Walter Hudson, a Minnesota state legislator, raised questions on social media regarding the state's reluctance to share voter registration data with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). In a series of posts published on July 25 and July 26, 2025, Hudson questioned the motivations behind withholding this information.

On July 25, Hudson commented on recent developments by stating, "That didn't take long."

Continuing his inquiry on July 26, he asked, "What is the innocent and benign explanation for this? Why would a state be apprehensive about sharing it's voter registration data with the DOJ? What do they think will happen if they do?" Later that day, he added, "It's public voter data which literally any Minnesotan has a right to. Why would you not want the a DOJ to have access? What's the benign and innocent explanation?"

Public voter registration data in Minnesota is accessible to residents under state law. The U.S. Department of Justice sometimes requests such information from states as part of investigations into voting rights or election administration practices.
