Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, has publicly criticized Senate Democrats over recent disruptions in air travel and the ongoing government shutdown in a series of posts on November 7, 2025.

In a post at 17:11 UTC, Emmer stated, ".@SecDuffy’s top priority is the safety of the American people. Because Senate Democrats are holding air traffic controllers’ paychecks hostage, flights need to be reduced to ensure safety. All blame for cancellations falls squarely on Chuck Schumer and the Democrats."

Later that day at 19:15 UTC, he added, "Stuck at the airport? Thank a Democrat."

At 21:30 UTC on the same day, Emmer posted another message: "The Democrat government shutdown is becoming very serious. @RepFedorchak and I did our job when we voted to fund the government back on September 19th. Now, Senate Democrats must do theirs before more harm is done."

Emmer's comments come amid heightened tensions in Congress regarding federal funding and its impact on essential services such as air travel. The congressman emphasized his own vote to fund the government in September and called for action from Senate Democrats.

Tom Emmer has served in Congress since replacing Michele Bachmann in 2015 and previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961, Emmer currently resides in Delano. He holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (1984) and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law (1988).
