Tom Emmer, a U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, has taken to social media to express his concerns regarding the policies of Governor Tim Walz. In a series of tweets, Emmer critiques what he describes as "sanctuary state policies" implemented by Walz.

On June 12, 2025, Emmer tweeted that "Tim Walz will answer for his dangerous sanctuary state policies that prioritize illegal aliens over law-abiding Minnesotans." He included a link encouraging followers to watch further commentary on the matter.

Later that day, Emmer expanded on his claims with another tweet at 14:34 UTC stating "FACTS: Tim Walz provides free health care, free college, and driver’s licenses to criminal illegal aliens…and then prevents local law enforcement from working with ICE to get these criminals off our streets." He emphasized his stance by questioning the definition of a sanctuary state.

At 15:01 UTC on the same day, Emmer addressed an unspecified statement from Governor Walz directly in another tweet: "That’s a lie, governor. The people being detained or deported are NOT 'law-abiding Americans.' They’re ILLEGAL aliens."

Emmer's political career began in the Minnesota House of Representatives where he served from 2005 until 2011 before transitioning to national politics. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano, Minnesota, he holds degrees from both the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and William Mitchell College of Law.
