Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, has posted a series of critical statements on his Twitter account addressing crime rates in Washington D.C., rhetoric about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and public safety proposals in Minneapolis.
On August 11, 2025, Emmer stated: "Democrats have run Washinngton D.C. into the ground.
•The murder rate in Washington today is higher than that of Bogotá, Colombia
•The number of car thefts has doubled over the past five years
•The number of carjackings has more than tripled
Thank you, President Trump, for https://t.co/Uoqnt4oJTA"
On August 12, 2025, he addressed remarks made by Representative Delia Ramirez: "Representative Delia Ramirez's characterization of ICE as a 'terrorist organization' is utterly outrageous.
This rhetoric is fueling assaults against our brave ICE officers, who are now facing a 1,000% increase in assaults.
Democrats must tone down the hateful rhetoric and https://t.co/m5dpOgZSCe"
A day later, on August 13, 2025, Emmer commented on mayoral candidate Omar Fatah’s campaign platform: "Omar Fatah is running on the outrageous claim that investing in mental health counselors will create a safer Minneapolis.
Violent crime in Minneapolis has surged by 10% since 2019.
If Fatah becomes mayor, crime will spiral out of control. https://t.co/mxCAWljwMI"
Emmer’s posts reflect ongoing debates about public safety policies and political rhetoric. He began serving in Congress after replacing Michele Bachmann in 2015 and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano at age 62, Emmer holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law.
