Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, has recently used his social media platform to comment on issues ranging from women’s sports in Minnesota to crime rates in Washington, D.C.
On August 10, 2025, Emmer criticized a local sports organization with the statement: "The USA Fencing Minnesota division would rather eliminate their female category altogether than protect women’s sports. These people are shameless."
The following day, he addressed public safety concerns in the nation’s capital. On August 11, Emmer wrote: "The streets of our nation’s capital have been filled with crime and chaos because of the Left’s soft-on-crime, anti-enforcement policies. @POTUS is stepping in where the city has failed and making DC safe again." Later that same day, he added: "Washington, D.C. sees 25 million American visitors per year, including many Minnesotans, yet it has a murder rate higher than Bogota and Mexico City. Our nation’s capital must be made SAFE again for visitors and residents alike. @POTUS is restoring law, order, and peace to DC."
Emmer's comments come amid ongoing national debates over gender categories in sports and public safety measures in major cities. He succeeded Michele Bachmann as representative for Minnesota's 6th district in 2015 after serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano at age 62, Emmer holds degrees from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (BA) and William Mitchell College of Law (JD).
