Tom Emmer, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 6th district, has made several public statements regarding cryptocurrency policy and financial privacy in the United States. Emmer, who succeeded Michele Bachmann in Congress in 2015 and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives, addressed recent legislative developments and his stance on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) through a series of posts on July 15, 2025.

In a post published at 16:01 UTC on July 15, Emmer referenced President Biden's commitment to advancing cryptocurrency initiatives: ".@POTUS promised to make America the crypto capital of the world. This week, we are delivering."

One hour later, at 17:00 UTC, Emmer expressed agreement with President Biden’s approach to this issue: ".@POTUS is right. This is our moment."

Later that day at 17:53 UTC, Emmer voiced opposition to adopting surveillance-style CBDCs similar to those implemented by the Chinese Communist Party. He thanked Heritage Action for supporting related legislation: "There is no reason for the U.S. to emulate the Chinese Communist Party by creating a surveillance-style CBDC. Thank you, @Heritage_Action, for recognizing the importance of this legislation and protecting Americans’ right to financial privacy."

Emmer was born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently resides in Delano. He graduated from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks with a BA in 1984 and earned a JD from William Mitchell College of Law in 1988.
