Tom Emmer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, has recently made several announcements regarding a proposed piece of legislation known as the One Big, Beautiful Bill. Emmer, who succeeded Michele Bachmann in his congressional role and has previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011, used social media to communicate his vision for this legislative proposal.

On May 17, Emmer posted that “No tax on tips” means bigger paychecks for millions of service workers and more financial breathing room for their families. He urged unity within the House Republican Conference to pass the bill, suggesting it would provide economic benefits to many families reliant on service industry wages.

The following day, May 18, Emmer highlighted another aspect of the bill focused on job creation at the national border. In his post, he stated that The One BIG, Beautiful Bill creates 18,000 jobs to secure our border! The breakdown included positions such as 10,000 new jobs with ICEgov, 5,000 custom officers roles, and an additional 3,000 jobs for CBP agents. Emmer asserted that this legislation would counteract what he described as chaos at the border under President Biden's administration.

Later on May 18, Emmer further detailed infrastructure components within the proposed legislation. He announced that The One Big, Beautiful Bill will fund: significant border security measures including river barriers and walls totaling over two thousand miles. This construction is framed as essential for ensuring long-term national security.

Emmer was born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently resides in Delano. He graduated from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in 1984 with a BA and earned a JD from William Mitchell College of Law in 1988.
