U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer, who represents Minnesota’s 6th district, used his social media platform to comment on recent Senate votes and international events. Emmer, who has served in Congress since 2015 after replacing Michele Bachmann, posted a series of statements on October 6 and 7, 2025.
On October 6, Emmer criticized Senate Democrats for their actions regarding the ongoing government shutdown. He wrote, "Senate Democrats just voted, for the FIFTH TIME, to keep the government shut down. What for? Taxpayer-funded health care for illegal aliens and other far-left policies that the American people handily rejected in November."
The following day, Emmer marked the anniversary of a significant international event. He stated, "Two years ago today, Hamas terrorists, fueled by their hatred of the Jewish people, carried out a barbaric attack on innocent Israeli citizens. As we remember this somber day and continue to work toward peace in the region, we reaffirm our unwavering support for our ally Israel." The message referenced the October 2023 attacks in Israel.
Later on October 7, Emmer called out Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith for their voting record related to the government shutdown. He wrote, "Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith have voted against reopening the government FIVE times now. They’re literally holding the government hostage for partisan programs that are unrelated to government funding. Our message is clear: Stop the politics, pass the clean CR."
Tom Emmer has a long history in public service. Before joining Congress in 2015, he served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961, Emmer is currently 62 years old and resides in Delano. He graduated from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks with a BA in 1984 and earned his JD from William Mitchell College of Law in 1988.
