The City of Plymouth reminds residents that city ordinances order pets to be placed on a leash at all times, according to its website.
According to the ordinances, the leash law goes for all situations except when on their owner's private property. However, the pet should be controlled by a barrier or by their owner's control. Leashes must be six feet or shorter.
City officials said that the ordinance is set to protect all animals and people who reside within the city limits. Officials said that pets can be well trained but unrestrained animals can still be at risk of getting injured by other animals or vehicles.
If a pet is discovered to be without a leash, the owner can be cited with a misdemeanor charge and a fine of up to $128.
Pet owners are also liable for their animal's actions. Officials said that having the animal on a leash helps protect the animal and the owner.
