Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, criticized Democratic lawmakers on October 3, 2025, for their handling of the ongoing government shutdown in a series of posts on X.

In his first post at 17:59 UTC, Emmer marked National Manufacturing Day by calling out Democrats for what he described as obstructionism: "It's National Manufacturing Day, but instead of standing with American manufacturers, Democrats are stifling innovation and growth by refusing to reopen the government. @ShopFloorNAM is spot on: PASS A CLEAN CR."

Later that day at 19:42 UTC, Emmer highlighted frustration among various groups affected by the shutdown and urged Senate Democrats to act: "The American people are fed up with the Democrats’ political games. Here are just some of the stakeholder groups urging Senate Democrats to join the Republicans to END the shutdown:

-Vietnam Veterans of America

-American Legion

-Business Roundtable

-International Association of"

At 21:33 UTC, Emmer posted another message attributing the cause of the shutdown to Democratic priorities: "The Democrat shutdown has nothing to do with health care and everything to do with the party’s misplaced priorities that put illegal aliens ahead of tax paying American citizens."

Emmer has served in Congress since replacing Michele Bachmann in 2015 and previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano, Emmer holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law.
