Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, criticized Senate Democrats in a series of social media posts for their handling of recent government funding negotiations.
On October 16, 2025, Emmer posted, "10 times. 10 times now, Democrats in the Senate have voted to keep the government shut down. All because Chuck Schumer is terrified of his far-left base. Here’s a tip, Chuck: stop cowering, stand up for the American people, and pass the clean CR you supported just 6 months ago."
Later that day, he continued his criticism by stating, ".@WhipKClark admits what we all know to be true: Democrats are using suffering Americans as leverage to achieve their far-left agenda. Absolutely shameful." (October 16, 2025).
On October 17, 2025, Emmer reiterated his position regarding legislative efforts in the House and Senate: "The House passed a clean, nonpartisan funding bill nearly a month ago. Senate Democrats have now blocked it 10 times because they want $1.5 trillion in new spending to allow illegal aliens on taxpayer-funded health care. For Democrats, it's always agenda > the American people."
Emmer has represented Minnesota's 6th District in Congress since succeeding Michele Bachmann in 2015 and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano at age 62, Emmer holds degrees from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and William Mitchell College of Law.
