Eric Lucero, a Minnesota state legislator, posted a series of statements on X (formerly Twitter) in early October 2025 criticizing the Democratic Party’s stance on immigration and related policies.

On October 1, 2025, Lucero wrote, "Illegals are directing the education of our children and registered to vote. Democrats are loud in support of illegals but completely absent and silent to support citizens." Later that day, he added another post: "Democrats idolize Communism while breaking the foundations of our Constitutional Republic."

The following day, Lucero continued his criticism with a post stating, "Democrats unanimously agree working-class American citizens simply trying to raise their own families should ALSO PAY billion$$$ in medical bills of illegal aliens. Democrats demand this so strongly Democrats shut down government because of it."

Eric Lucero has previously voiced concerns about immigration policy and its impact on education and healthcare funding. Debates over non-citizen participation in voting and education systems have been ongoing topics at both state and national levels. Government shutdowns have occurred historically over disputes involving federal spending priorities, including issues tied to healthcare for undocumented immigrants.
