Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, used his social media platform on September 30, 2025, to comment on government funding and state-level sports policies.
In a post made at 14:11 UTC, Emmer stated, "House Republicans have done our job to fund the government with a clean, nonpartisan funding bill. Democrats, on the other hand, are holding government funding hostage to appease their far-left base. If the government shuts down, they will own the consequences."
Later that day at 15:19 UTC, Emmer addressed federal oversight of sports participation in Minnesota: "Thank you, @HHSgov and @usedgov, for holding Tim Walz and the State of Minnesota accountable for VIOLATING FEDERAL LAW by allowing MEN to compete in women’s sports. Minnesota’s so-called leaders' refusal to protect female athletes must end."
At 16:37 UTC on September 30, Emmer reiterated concerns about potential impacts of a government shutdown: "By shutting down the government, Democrats are playing games with our farmers, ranchers, and producers’ livelihoods. They would rather appease their radical base than support the millions of hardworking Americans who feed our country and the world."
Emmer has served in Congress since replacing Michele Bachmann in 2015 after previously serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano at age 62, Emmer holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (1984) and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law (1988).
