The Wright County Highway Department announced on April 17 that spring weight load restrictions for vehicles on county highways and roads will be lifted at 12:01 a.m. Monday, April 20.
These seasonal restrictions, which began March 3, are put in place each year to help protect road surfaces during the period when frost beneath the pavement melts. This is when roads are most vulnerable to damage from heavy vehicles.
According to the department, lifting these limits means trucks and other large vehicles can resume normal operations without concern for additional enforcement or fines related to spring load limits.
Spring weight restrictions are a common practice in many regions with freeze-thaw cycles. They help local governments preserve infrastructure and reduce costly repairs caused by excess weight while roadbeds remain soft from melting frost.
With the end of these restrictions, county officials expect regular traffic patterns and commercial activity involving heavy vehicles to return to normal levels.
