Wright County Health & Human Services and MEADA announced on April 6 that they will hold a Drug Takeback Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25.
The event aims to provide residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of expired or unused medications. Proper disposal of medications helps prevent misuse and protects the environment by keeping pharmaceuticals out of water supplies and landfills.
Drug takeback locations will be set up at two sites: the Albertville Coborn’s at 5698 La Centre Ave., and the Montrose branch of Harvest Bank at 145 Nelson Blvd. Both sites will operate as drive-thru drop-off points to limit contact and streamline the process for participants.
Residents are asked to bring medications in their original containers, with identifying information blacked out or labels removed. If the original container is not available, people should seal the medications in a plastic bag. Liquid medications must remain in their original containers and be placed inside sealed plastic bags to prevent leaks. The program also accepts vaping cartridges, provided that batteries have been removed.
Organizers say these measures are intended to make participation easy while ensuring safety for both staff and community members.
