Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, posted a series of statements on April 16, 2026, addressing concerns about voting procedures and tax policy in Minnesota.
In a post made at 15:37 UTC, Emmer criticized the state’s same-day voter registration rules: “Welcome to Tim Walz’s Minnesota—where ONE person can vouch for over half a dozen more to vote on the same day. It’s no secret that noncitizens are voting. And Minnesota Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to keep it that way.”
An hour later, at 16:44 UTC, Emmer highlighted the impact of Republican-supported tax legislation while criticizing Democratic governors: “From manufacturers and steelworkers to police officers and delivery drivers, the Working Families Tax Cuts are delivering for Americans ACROSS THE BOARD. That’s why it’s so ABSURD that blue states run by Democrat governors—including Minnesota—are dragging their feet on”
Later in the evening at 22:15 UTC, he commented on hosting individuals affected by these tax policies during Tax Day events: “This Tax Day, we had the great honor of hosting Americans and stakeholders whose lives and industries are benefiting from Republicans’ Working Families Tax Cuts. Their stories make clear: The winners of this once-in-a-generation bill are everyday, hardworking Americans!”
Emmer has served as a congressional representative since replacing Michele Bachmann in 2015. Before joining Congress, he was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and now residing in Delano, Emmer holds degrees from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (BA) and William Mitchell College of Law (JD).
