Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, posted a series of statements on November 13, 2025, regarding the recent end to a federal government shutdown and ongoing issues facing foster children in America.
In his first post on November 13, Emmer criticized Democrats for their handling of the government shutdown: "Democrats threw the American people under the bus with their needless government shutdown. And they achieved NOTHING! Now that the disaster is over, the @HouseGOP and @POTUS are ready to continue delivering results for AMERICA!"
Later that day, he announced the reopening of federal operations: "The federal government is back open and working for the American people!" (November 13).
Emmer also addressed child welfare policy in an evening statement: "Foster children in America deserve dignity, protection, and opportunity. Thank you to @POTUS and @FLOTUS for ensuring that children in America’s foster care system have the tools they need to build a strong future!" (November 13).
Tom Emmer has served as a member of Congress since succeeding Michele Bachmann in 2015. Before his tenure in Congress, he was part of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano at age 62, Emmer holds degrees from both University of Alaska-Fairbanks (BA) and William Mitchell College of Law (JD).
