Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, posted a series of statements on social media regarding the recent government shutdown and efforts to reopen the government.

On November 12, 2025, Emmer criticized Democratic lawmakers for their stance on the shutdown, writing: "It is disgusting that Democrats are saying the shutdown was 'worth it.' This needless shutdown has caused serious harm to the American people. I'm glad eight Senate Democrats finally came to their senses and put people over politics. Will any House Democrats do the same?"

Later that evening, he expressed support for a conservative advocacy group backing Republican efforts to end the shutdown: ".@club4growth is standing with the @HouseGOP as we work to END the Democrat shutdown and REOPEN the government. Republicans are doing what’s best for the American people, while Democrats continue to obstruct the America First agenda. It’s time to get this done."

On November 13, Emmer announced legislative progress in reopening federal operations: "BREAKING: We just sent the bill to reopen the government to @POTUS’ desk. The @HouseGOP did what’s best for the American people by voting—once again—to fund the government and end the needless Democrat shutdown. While our colleagues on the other side of the aisle seem intent"

Emmer succeeded Michele Bachmann in Congress and has also served in Minnesota's state legislature prior to his current role. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and residing in Delano, Emmer holds degrees from both University of Alaska-Fairbanks (BA) and William Mitchell College of Law (JD).
