Walter Hudson, a Minnesota state representative, used his social media platform to criticize Democratic lawmakers and Governor Tim Walz for their handling of school safety legislation and political discourse. In a series of posts made on November 11 and 12, 2025, Hudson addressed the fate of the Shield Act and commented on his experiences as a legislator.
On November 11, Hudson wrote, "The Shield Act, which would provide unobtrusive tactically sound protection for our schools without turning them into prisons, has been ignored by the Democrats and Tim Walz since 2023. By all means, governor, try to frame us as not caring about kids. I dare you." In this statement, he alleged that both Democratic lawmakers and Governor Walz have neglected the proposed school safety measure since its introduction in 2023.
Later that evening at an event, Hudson recounted being asked about surprises encountered during his tenure as a state representative. On November 12 he posted: "At an event tonight, I was asked what has surprised me the most since becoming a state representative. My answer was the extent to which people are willing to knowingly lie, and the talent with which they convincingly do so. This is such a lie. Senate Democrats shut it down." Here he accused Senate Democrats of shutting down legislative efforts related to school safety.
In another post made early on November 12, Hudson referred to an unspecified topic as "The issue of the century!"
The Shield Act referenced by Hudson is part of ongoing debates in Minnesota regarding how best to ensure student safety while maintaining open educational environments. Legislative discussions around this bill have reflected broader national conversations over school security measures and partisan divisions on public safety policy.
