Walter Hudson, a Minnesota state representative, posted a series of tweets in early November 2025 criticizing Democratic responses to the ongoing federal government shutdown and legislative processes.

On November 7, Hudson wrote: "Democrats: 'Republicans are in charge of the White House, the House of Representatives, and the Senate. They own the shutdown.' Also Democrats: 'This is going well for us. Let's prolong it." He appeared to question Democratic messaging regarding responsibility for the government shutdown.

In another tweet on November 10, Hudson commented on legislative proceedings by stating: "Kubuki theater. We all knew this was how it was going to go. Just like we all knew there was never going to be a special session here in Minnesota. You don't have to be a genius to discern disingenuous politicking. You just needs eyes and a brain."

Later that same day, he further questioned Democratic actions related to reopening the federal government with another post: "Wait? The Democrats are going to re-open the federal government? How is that possible? We were assured that it had been closed by Republicans all this time. How did they suddenly obtain the power they claimed they don't have? "

These comments come amid heightened partisan debate over control and responsibility during periods of federal government shutdowns—a recurring issue in U.S. politics when budget negotiations stall between parties controlling different branches or chambers of government.
