U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer, who represents Minnesota’s 6th district and has served in Congress since 2015, criticized Democratic leaders and progressive members of the party in a series of tweets posted on November 3 and 4, 2025.
On November 3, Emmer accused Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democrats of causing a government shutdown due to intra-party tensions. He wrote, "Chuck Schumer and the Democrats have caused serious pain and suffering with their needless government shutdown, and it’s all because they’re terrified of the Commie Mamdani wing of their party."
Later that day, Emmer further claimed that left-wing elements have taken control of the Democratic Party. In his tweet he stated, "Communists and marxists have taken over the Democrat party—look no further than Zohran Mamdani in NYC. They hate America and are trying to undermine the great constitutional republic that our founders gave us." He also mentioned appearing on @ROARNetworkUS's The Source.
The following morning, on November 4, Emmer called for an end to the shutdown with a brief message: "Today would be a great day for Democrats to reopen the government."
Tom Emmer succeeded Michele Bachmann as representative for Minnesota's 6th district in 2015. Before joining Congress, he served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Emmer was born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently resides in Delano. He holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (1984) and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law (1988).
