Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, has used his social media platform to criticize Democratic lawmakers regarding the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on Americans.

On October 31, 2025, Emmer posted: "Democrats are playing political games with American lives, and it must END."

Later that same day, he continued his criticism by stating: "The effects of the Democrat shutdown are just beginning. You would think Democrats would want to prevent our people and our economy from being harmed, but they're too afraid of their far-left base to do the right thing." This message was posted on October 31, 2025.

On November 1, 2025, Emmer addressed concerns about food security in the United States: "Millions of Americans today are wondering how they are going to put food on the table for their families. Democrats had the opportunity to fund SNAP 13 times but they refused."

Emmer has represented Minnesota's 6th District in Congress since succeeding Michele Bachmann in 2015. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano at age 62, Emmer holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (1984) and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law (1988).
