Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district, criticized Democratic lawmakers in a series of posts on October 30 and 31, 2025, regarding the ongoing government shutdown and funding for SNAP benefits.

On October 30, Emmer posted: "Here’s the truth: Democrats have had 13 chances to fund SNAP and have voted 'no' EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Any lapse in SNAP benefits is 100% preventable and 100% a consequence of Democrats' refusal to simply do their jobs. Don’t for a second let them convince you otherwise."

Continuing his criticism the following day, Emmer wrote on October 31: "Democrats could end the shutdown madness by simply passing the same clean CR they voted for 13 times under the Biden administration." Later that day, he added: "The Democrat government shutdown is bad, and it’s only going to get worse."

Emmer has represented Minnesota's 6th District in Congress since 2015 after serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961, Emmer currently resides in Delano and holds degrees from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and William Mitchell College of Law.
