Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, addressed the ongoing government shutdown and related political issues in a series of posts on his social media account in October 2025.
On October 19, Emmer wrote, "The longer the Democrat shutdown drags on, the more damaging the consequences will be. If they wanted to, Senate Democrats could end it this week with the House-passed, nonpartisan funding bill."
The following day, he posted another statement on the 20th day of the shutdown: "We are now on day 20 of the Democrat shutdown. 20 days of the Democrats holding the entire government hostage to their radical demands. But we will not negotiate under hostage conditions, nor will we pay a ransom."
Later that same day, Emmer commented on economic policy, stating, ".@POTUS is making life AFFORDABLE again for the American people. This is the MAGA way."
Emmer has served in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Michele Bachmann. He previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961, Emmer currently resides in Delano. He holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law.
