Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, used his social media platform on October 14, 2025, to criticize the ongoing government shutdown, which he attributes to Democratic lawmakers.

On the morning of October 14, Emmer posted, "It’s day 14 of the Democrat government shutdown, and our message remains the same: STOP playing political games, PASS the clean CR, REOPEN the government." Later that day, he referenced international developments, stating, "With a @POTUS-brokered peace deal in the Middle East and the last living hostages reunited with their families in Israel, today should be a day of celebration. Yet, we’re all here today marking day 14 of the Democrat shutdown." In a subsequent post, Emmer asserted, "Democrats are putting politics and illegal aliens over the American people. And who is forced to pay the price? YOU. It’s insane! Republicans did our job and it’s past time Democrats did theirs."

Tom Emmer has represented Minnesota's 6th District in Congress since 2015, succeeding Michele Bachmann. He previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Emmer, born in 1961 in South Bend, Indiana, resides in Delano and holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law.
