Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, used his social media platform on October 11, 2025, to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and related policy debates.

On October 11, Emmer posted: "It's day 11 of the government shutdown, and Senate Democrats have voted 7 times against our troops, the federal workforce, and the American people. Why? Because they’d rather increase spending by $1.5 TRILLION and put illegal aliens back on taxpayer-funded healthcare. Insanity."

Later that day, he expressed support for former President Donald Trump and military personnel in a separate post: "Thank you for your leadership, President Trump! God bless our men and women in uniform." (October 11, 2025).

In another tweet from October 11, Emmer referenced Senator Tina Smith's stance during the shutdown: "Tina Smith claims she shut the government down so that she can 'protect Minnesotans’ health care.' If that was really the case, why does she support a $1.5 trillion proposal that would give health care to illegal aliens while cutting 50 billion dollars in rural health care?"

Emmer has served in Congress since replacing Michele Bachmann in 2015 and previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano, Emmer holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (1984) and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law (1988).
