Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, has criticized Democratic senators and the party's approach to government funding in a series of posts on social media between October 9 and October 10, 2025.

On October 9, Emmer posted: "Six times now, @SenAmyKlobuchar and @SenTinaSmith have voted against paying our troops, air traffic controllers, federal workers, 13,000 Minnesota National Guardsmen—the list goes on. All because they'd rather follow Chuck Schumer off the pier than stand with Minnesotans."

Later that day, he continued his criticism of the Democratic Party by stating: "The American people are over the Democrat party’s hypocrisy and radical agenda. The longer Democrats hold government funding hostage, the worse off hardworking American people will be. Thanks to @jfradioshow for having me on today."

On October 10, Emmer posted excerpts that he attributed to Democrats regarding the ongoing government shutdown: '"Every day gets better for us." "You reopen the government, and we lose our leverage.’" "The point of this shutdown is not just suffering for suffering's sake. But to make a point." Democrats are spelling out their motivation in shutting the government down. It's all politics.'

Emmer’s comments come amid ongoing disputes in Congress over government funding and accusations from both parties about responsibility for potential shutdowns.

Emmer has served as a member of Congress since replacing Michele Bachmann in 2015 and previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. He was born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently resides in Delano. Emmer earned his BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in 1984 and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law in 1988.
