Tom Emmer U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota's 6th district | Official U.S. House Headshot
Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district, has taken to social media to address the ongoing government funding dispute and its impacts, particularly focusing on the role of Senate Democrats in the current legislative impasse.
On October 7, 2025, Emmer stated, "The House did our job by sending a clean, nonpartisan CR over to the Senate well before the funding deadline. It’s past time for Senate Democrats to do theirs." Later that same day, he highlighted the real-world consequences of the shutdown, writing, "Airport delays impact nearly every American. Air traffic controllers will miss their first paycheck on October 14th. Reminder: The only thing standing in the way of the government reopening and this chaos ending is Senate Democrats."
Continuing his criticism on October 8, Emmer posted, "Americans have a message for Democrats: a government shutdown solves NOTHING and hurts EVERYONE."
Emmer’s remarks come as the U.S. government faces another funding deadline. The House of Representatives has passed a continuing resolution (CR), but disagreements in the Senate have prevented a resolution to the standoff. The potential for missed paychecks among federal employees, including air traffic controllers, underscores the urgency of reaching an agreement.
Tom Emmer has represented Minnesota’s 6th District in Congress since 2015, succeeding Michele Bachmann. He previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961, Emmer is currently 62 years old and resides in Delano. He holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law.
