Walter Hudson, a Minnesota state representative, posted a series of tweets on October 6 and 7, 2025, criticizing media coverage and political responses following controversial comments allegedly made by Virginia Democratic Attorney General nominee Jay Jones.

In a tweet from October 6, Hudson wrote, "As usual, the legacy media framing is 'Republicans pounce.' The story is our reaction to his abhorrent comments, not the comments themselves. This is not a fringe problem. It's endemic on the Left."

Later that evening, he added in another post: '"This is the thing we give up. Extending tolerance to people who do not extend it to us. It should be over, that era." 100%'

On October 7, Hudson referenced specific allegations against Jay Jones: "This is VA Democrat AG nominee Jay Jones, who texted a GOP colleague - not once, but persistently - expressing the desire to shoot Republicans and see their children die in their arms. He's retained all endorsements and no Dem anywhere in the US has called on him to drop out."

Jay Jones has previously served as a delegate in the Virginia House of Delegates and ran for Attorney General of Virginia in past election cycles.

Media outlets have frequently been criticized by some politicians for focusing coverage on partisan reactions rather than initial controversies or statements. The phrase "Republicans pounce" has been used as shorthand among critics who believe news organizations emphasize GOP responses over reporting on actions or remarks made by Democrats.
