Tom Emmer calls for passage of clean continuing resolution amid government shutdown debate

Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, used his social media platform over the weekend to urge Senate Democrats to pass a continuing resolution and reopen the federal government.

On October 4, 2025, Emmer posted: "From airlines to veterans, the message to Democrats from the American people is clear: PASS THE CLEAN CR, REOPEN THE GOVERNMENT."

Later that same day, he criticized Senate Democrats for their approach to government funding negotiations. In a tweet dated October 4, 2025, Emmer wrote: "Senate Democrats, including @SenAmyKlobuchar and @SenTinaSmith, are holding government funding hostage unless they get $1.5 trillion in new spending and illegal aliens put back on taxpayer-funded health care. They’re putting Minnesotan guardsmen, women, infants, and children at"

The following morning on October 5, 2025, Emmer voiced agreement with an advocacy group by stating: ".@Protectaxpayers is absolutely right."

Emmer has represented Minnesota's 6th District in Congress since replacing Michele Bachmann in 2015. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano at age 62, Emmer holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (1984) and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law (1988).
