Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district, addressed the ongoing government shutdown and called for bipartisan action in a series of tweets posted on October 5, 2025.
In his first message, Emmer criticized the opposing party, stating, "The American people know that the Democrat shutdown is purely political. The time is now to set politics aside and pass the clean, nonpartisan CR." (October 5, 2025).
Later that day, Emmer amplified a message from an immigration advocacy group by quoting them: "Spot on from @FAIRImmigration: 'Passing a clean CR that keeps the federal government functioning is the right thing to do.'" (October 5, 2025).
In a third post, Emmer cited concerns from a real estate organization regarding the impact of the shutdown: ".@nardotrealtor warns of the impacts of the Democrats’ government shutdown on housing and urges the passage of the CLEAN CR:" (October 5, 2025).
Tom Emmer has represented Minnesota's 6th District in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Michele Bachmann. He previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives between 2005 and 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961, Emmer resides in Delano and holds degrees from both the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and William Mitchell College of Law.
