Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on Americans.
On October 1, 2025, Emmer posted: "Republicans voted to keep the government open with a clean, nonpartisan CR. Democrats shut the government down, putting millions of Americans’ livelihoods at risk, all to push their radical agenda through.
Stop the political games, do your job, and reopen the government." He attributed responsibility for the shutdown to Democratic lawmakers and called for an end to what he described as "political games."
Later that day, Emmer addressed those observing a religious holiday: "Wishing all who observe a meaningful Yom Kippur. May this holy day of atonement bring renewal and peace."
The following afternoon, Emmer highlighted groups affected by the shutdown in another post dated October 2: "Our men and women in uniform.
Veterans.
Air traffic controllers.
Farmers and ranchers.
Federal workers and their families.
Americans who rely on telehealth and home care services.
All are victims of the Democrats’ shutdown.
Stop the political games. Reopen the government."
Emmer has represented Minnesota's 6th District in Congress since replacing Michele Bachmann in 2015. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano, Emmer holds degrees from both University of Alaska-Fairbanks (BA) and William Mitchell College of Law (JD).
