Tom Emmer, U.S. Congressman representing Minnesota’s 6th district since 2015, has used his social media platform to criticize Democratic lawmakers over recent government funding negotiations and election security measures.

On September 25, 2025, Emmer posted: "Democrats are holding government funding hostage. Here are some of their ridiculous demands:

-Restore taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens

-Send half a billion dollars to leftist news outlets

-Repeal the historic Working Families Tax Cut

Clearly, they’d rather play".

Later that day, he continued his criticism by addressing election laws in Minnesota and national efforts on election integrity. In a post dated September 25, 2025, Emmer wrote: "While Democrats in Minnesota make it easier for noncitizens to vote, President Trump and @AAGDhillon are working to safeguard American elections. It’s time for accountability."

On September 26, 2025, Emmer targeted House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries regarding a continuing resolution (CR) aimed at keeping the federal government open. He stated: "Hakeem Jeffries voted against our clean, nonpartisan CR that would keep the government open without any political gimmicks.

Now, he’s using the federal government and all the American people it employs as pawns for his political game. Any shutdown is on Jeffries and the Dems."

Emmer has represented Minnesota's 6th District in Congress since replacing Michele Bachmann in 2015. Prior to his congressional service, he was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano, Emmer holds a BA from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law.
