Tom Emmer addresses Omar controversy and legislative actions on defense and digital currency

U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer, who represents Minnesota’s 6th district, posted a series of statements on his official X account between September 12 and September 13, 2025. The tweets addressed topics ranging from criticism of a fellow congresswoman to recent legislative developments in national defense and digital currency policy.

On September 12, Emmer criticized Representative Ilhan Omar for sharing a video related to the murder of Charlie Kirk. In his post, Emmer stated: "Shame on you, @Ilhan. You used your platform to share a disgusting video - a video full of lies that tries to justify the actions of the deranged coward who murdered Charlie Kirk -  with your nearly 3 million followers. Charlie was a loving father and husband, and dedicated his".

The following day, Emmer highlighted the passage of significant military legislation by the House GOP. On September 13 he wrote: "PASSED: The 2026 National Defense Authorization Act This week, the @HouseGOP voted to restore lethality in our nation’s military, codify executive orders, and support @POTUS’ peace through strength agenda. The Department of War will be stronger than EVER."

Later that same day, Emmer commented on Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), expressing concern over privacy issues associated with their development. He stated: "Any Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) that is not open, permissionless, and private - like cash - is nothing more than a surveillance tool. Earlier this week, the House passed the NDAA, which included our bill to prohibit the development of a CBDC. It is time for the".

Tom Emmer has served in Congress since replacing Michele Bachmann in 2015 and previously held office in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Born in South Bend, Indiana in 1961 and currently residing in Delano at age 62, Emmer holds degrees from both University of Alaska-Fairbanks (BA) and William Mitchell College of Law (JD).
