Walter Hudson, a Minnesota state representative, posted a series of tweets on September 13, 2025, criticizing The New York Times and its journalistic practices. In his posts, Hudson accused the newspaper of engaging in diversionary tactics and raised concerns about comments made by one of its contributors.

In his first tweet at 18:48 UTC, Hudson wrote, "Another putrid example of diversionary journalism. We notice people celebrating death and encouraging more. But the 'sToRy' is that we noticed."

Four minutes later, at 18:52 UTC, he expanded on his criticism: "BTW... this obvious attempt to divert attention from the celebration of death by leftists comes to us from the NY Times. ... the same NY Times that continues to employ John McWhorter, who said he wishes someone would kill Donald Trump. Seems relevant."

At 18:54 UTC, Hudson called for official scrutiny of the publication, stating "The NY Times needs to be investigated. This is not an organ of journalism. Freedom of the press doesn't include conspiracy to commit crime or aiding and abating crime."

Walter Hudson serves as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives and is known for his public commentary on media coverage and political issues.

The New York Times has faced criticism from various political figures over its editorial choices in recent years. Allegations regarding statements attributed to John McWhorter have circulated online; however, no credible evidence has surfaced confirming that McWhorter publicly wished harm upon former President Donald Trump.
