A 100-34 vote in the Minnesota House of Representatives approved House File 1, a piece of legislation that makes changes to state tax policy and bonding.
In a video shared to his official Facebook page, State Rep. Dean Urdahl (R-Grove City) spoke on the House floor about the bill, saying it fixes a retroactive sales tax increase under which taxes were being paid on 2018 sales.
In his post, Urdahl wrote that the legislation rectified “a tax issue that has placed a major burden on many farmers and business owners.”
Urdahl also spoke on the $1.37 billion bonding package in the video, noting that the state expects a $6 billion deficit next session and that Republicans brought the bonding bill down from what Democrats had proposed.
“Now as far as wants or desires or needs, again, this bill has about one-third of the money in transportation,” Urdahl said on the House floor.
Other areas with significant spending include waste water, and building repairs for public colleges and universities.
