Minnesota received FEMA approval for a Lost Wages Assistance grant last month.
FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor announced the approval on Aug. 29, which will allow the Gopher State to provide $300 per week along with the recipient’s regular unemployment benefit, a press release issued by the entity said.
The funding was made possible by President Donald Trump allowing for up to $44 billion from FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund to provide a financial lifeline to those who lost wages because of the COVID-19 pandemic on Aug. 8.
Three weeks later, Minnesota agreed to distribute its allotment to its citizens who lost wages and jobs because of the outbreak.
To receive funding, a state must complete and submit an application for a grant award to administer the supplemental payments for lost wages, FEMA says on its website.
