City of Hanover issued the following announcement on Dec. 31.
WH has become aware that one or two unknown persons are actively impersonating WH employees in a possible effort to collect information about area residents and their premises.
WH has received four calls from homeowners about suspicious activity. The common report is that one or two men pull up to a home and claim to be sent by WH to inspect Christmas lights and/or the electric meter. The impersonators reportedly display a WH logo on their hats and on their silver car.
Please be aware THESE ARE NOT WH EMPLOYEES! The men are wearing black hats with a WH logo, possibly printed on paper. WH is not aware of any personal or property damage having been reported as a result of this activity. But the impersonators do appear to be checking out the homes and premises of area residents. The police have been notified of these occurrences.
WH employees never inspect Christmas lights. However, we may check a meter. WH employee vehicles are white or yellow with a black WH logo affixed to both doors. WH employees wear shirts with a WH logo and have a WH badge to identify who they are.
If you notice any suspicious activity, please notify the sheriff in your county. If you feel threatened, call 911 immediately.
