The minimum wage in Minnesota is set to go up Jan. 1.
For large employers whose annual gross revenues are $500,000 or more, minimum wage increases to $10 per hour, while other state minimum wages will increase to $8.15, according to the Redwood Falls Gazette.
Nancy Leppink of the Minnesota Department of Labor told the news agency that the increase is "a positive step for workers" but that still more needs to be done to help workers earn a living wage.
Leppink said families of three or more will still be at or below the poverty line despite the wage increase.
Current pay structures are $9.86 for large companies and $8.04 for state minimum wages, the Redwood Falls Gazette reported.
Training wages and youth wage rates will also be $8.15 per hour as of Jan. 1.
